ABOUT ME

My name is Michał Pawlęga. I'm a therapist, sexologist, trainer and public health specialist. I'm passionate about supporting people in their personal growth. I do provide psychotherapeutic support, facilitate trainings and create and implement health promotion programs.

Michał Pawlęga, therapist and sexologist

I've been graduated from education studies in the field of adult education at the University of Warsaw and clinical sexology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Currently, I do participate in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapist (CBT) certification at the Crescentia Psychotherapy School.

For many years, I've been engaged in sexual and mental health promotion. It included research programs as well as HIV and addiction prevention for so-called hard-to-reach populations (people from socially stigmatized groups: drug users, LGBT people, sex workers). I was also a founder of the first comprehensive initiative supporting problematic chemsex users in Poland. For many years I worked as an HIV testing counsellor and provided support to those tested positively. In recognition, I was honoured with "Czerwona Kokardka" award for a special contribution to HIV prevention activities in Poland.

Being a member of a minority group, recovering from addiction and dealing with serious personal crises is also my experience. As a result, I can better feel and understand the situation of the people I support. I do believe that every person has the right to self-determination and autonomy, and my role is to accompany them in the process of change.

To effectively support people in their personal growth and meet the highest standards, I do improve my therapeutic and coaching skills by regular participation in the supervision. In all my activities I follow the ethical codes of the Polish Sexological Society, the Polish Society for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy, the Association of Addiction Therapists and the Trainers Association STOP, which I'm a member of.

To develop my scientific and professional expertise, I became a member of the European AIDS Society, the European AIDS Treatment Group, the Eurasian Harm Reduction Association, the Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity and the Polish AIDS Scientific Society.
